Monthly Favourites: January 2015

Hey everyone!

I can’t believe I am getting around to this before the mid-point of the month! Record for me. I had fun assembling these favourites, because in the past week I have found some amazing products, but can’t include them because it was technically February, but look for them next month! Without further ado, my faves for January 2015.

First is an old fave I rediscovered this past month. This is the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and I love it! I had stopped using it when I found their Pore Erasing one as well as the Hourglass Veil Primer and the Porefessional, but in January even with moisturizer I had very dry skin. I could not apply foundation or even BB Cream in the earlier days of the month because everything would flake and look cakey. When I decided to try using this I realized this will need to be my winter primer because it smooths the dryness and blurs as well. I will keep the others for my more oily months in the summer, but this will be used in the coming months until the frigid temperatures leave.

As usual this is my favourite foundation, it is the Rimmel Stay Matte mousse foundation in 100 Ivory. As mentioned above I had a little hiatus from it because of the flaky skin, but towards the end when I used the other primer I tried this again. I use less than I did before and I still mix it with the Estee Lauder Idealist to make it illuminating.

To set my makeup this month I have gone back to my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. I use this all over my face lightly with a giant powder brush to set the foundation and concealer (still use Nars Radiant Concealer in Vanilla, so I did not post about it again) and it gives me a radiant glow without looking too shiny. I do not use this under my eyes, simply because I use the next product for that.

On Boxing Day I bought a Tarte kit that had this little cutie in it and I am in love with using this to set under my eyes. My concealer does not crease with this little beauty. It is the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder.

My favourite blush of the month is Milani’s Baked blush in Luminoso. This is a YouTube favourite and I purchased it off Amazon (since I have a hard time getting Milani here) and I love it. It is a beautiful pink/peach with golden shimmer and just awakens the face in the morning.

For eye primer I have gone back to my love affair with the Urban Decay original Primer Potion. This sets my eye makeup unlike anything else and cancels out some discoloration on my eyelids at the same time.

My favourite eye shadows have been from the Boxing Day purchase from Tarte. It is a blush and eye shadow palette called the Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette. It is no longer available, but I still had to mention it. I love the shadows and the Exposed blush is beautiful as well.

My favourite mascara this month has been this mini of the Lights, Camera, Flashes from Tarte. My HG is Lights, Camera, Lashes and this one is quickly beating it out. It gives a more defined look while the original one is more natural looking. I went out and bought the full size of this guy, but won’t be opening it until I milk this one til the end.

This month has been about going back to old faves. This one I went back to as a solution to my dry skin. I had been using their Mattifying one and I thought maybe it was drying me out a little too much. I will keep using their All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray until the winter passes.

Retails for 36$ at Sephora:

My favourite lip balm this month has been this Peach flavoured one from Cherry Culture. I got this from a swap board and I love it. It is thicker than most balms and the smell is to die for!

Retails for 1$ at Cherry Culture:

One of my two faves in the “lipstick” department this month was Tarte’s Alluring Lip Tint. I got this in the Christmas set they released and I love it. It is a nude/pink and it smells like mint.

Kiss & Belle Lipsurgence Lip Set retails for 41$ at Sephora:

My last lip favourite has been this Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-In-Oil in the shade Cherry My Cherie 5. It is a beautiful moisturizing lip tint in a red/pink colour. It smells amazing, like candy, like most YSL lip products.

Retails for 35$ at Sephora:

My favourite nail colour this month has been on my toes all month and my hands once this month and it is Deborah Lippmann‘s polish in the shade Rolling in the Deep which is a lovely navy blue.

Retails for 20$ at Sephora:

My favourite lotion item has been this tube of Josie Maran’s Whipped Argan Oil Intensive Hand Cream in Sweet Citrus. I love the smell and feel of this lotion. I do not like greasy lotion, but this sinks in so well and leaves me feeling  hydrated. I am using it sparingly because I do not want to run out. It was a Hautelook purchase and I don’t know if I will find it for cheap again.

My favourite cleanser this month was my ThirstyCleanse from GlamGlow. It is a wonderful cleanser than cleans and purifies without stripping my skin which is essential in the winter. It smells like coconut and I can’t sing its praises enough.

Retails for 43$ at Sephora:

My favourite mask this month has been this First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask. This is a game changer. I want to go out and buy 20 bottles so I never run out. It is moisturizing and makes my skin look glowing after I use it. It smells good and has chunks of oatmeal in it. I never want to go without this mask.

My favourite piece of jewellery this month has been this locket I got for Christmas from Etsy. I asked to get this so I could keep a picture of my grandfather who passed away in October close to my heart. It is a beautiful locket and has a nice large face so I could pick a good picture of him.

I could not find the exact one on Etsy again, but they have lots of variations:

My favourite candle has been this Butterscotch Toffee one from Bath and Body Works. It is almost done. I bought this on sale for 8.50$. I bought the last two in store today to load up as this is almost done and the winter ones are almost all sold out.

My favourite TV show this month has been Gilmore Girls. I have seen every episode of this show before, but I have been re-watching it since Netflix got it. It is an amazing show filled with witty dialogue and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I have two favourite songs that I will link below for you that I have been listening to non-stop all month.

First of all is Sia’s Elastic Heart. I originally heard this song the night the video came out, because everyone was talking about this weird video with Maddie from Dance Moms and Shia LeBoeuf. How could I resist? I also love Chandelier so I was excited to check this out. The lyrics of this song just speak to me. The video can be a little off putting at first, but I now see it as art. It is expressive and deep.

The last song is Take Me to Church by Hozier. I first heard this song on SNL and then again when he performed for the Victoria Secret fashion show. I love his voice and these lyrics are also amazing. The video is what helped me understand the meaning of the song. It is a commentary on religious views of homosexuality. I love this song, it is haunting and catchy.

What have been your favourites this month? Let me know!

Thanks for reading 🙂
